Dec 10, 2011 Meet @ Noon
Peach
State Cadillac & LaSalle Club has been invited to participate in an
exciting event in Gainesville in two
weeks! Other clubs, such as
the Corvette groups, have also been invited. The event is sponsored by Moss
Robertson Cadillac on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville. That places it
about an hour from Roswell, on the southwest side of Gainesville. The
dealership will clear the decks out front, so we can situate our classic
Cadillacs on display. They tell me they are hoping we can bring a dozen or
more Cadillacs from the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s…
Step
up to the plate! Let’s
show them Cadillac style.

at the parking lot of Waffle House #1110,

November
ALL DAY
Cadillac
(and other makes) Graveyard Cruise
-
Saturday, November 19, 2011
The Saturday before Thanksgiving we will
meet on the south side of ATL and drive down to Pine Mountain, GA. PSCLC
member Jim Biagi found a family junk yard that has been off limits to the
public for decades. It’s a graveyard of 30+ cars and several Cadillacs.
NONE are worth restoring, but nearly all of them were driven in and parked
and left untouched. people are really starting to come in and pick parts
now that they see regular activity. Many people have been waiting years for
the owner to start selling parts and bodies. Jim was fairly impressed with
the available chrome, bumpers and other bits and pieces, and pretty amazed
at all the other cars laying in the woods. SO, call it a spelunking trip!
As for the Caddies to be found there:
-
there’s a ‘48 with the big flathead still in place.
-
There were two or three 1950 sedans,
-
plus a ‘51, a ‘52, and
-
I think maybe two 53’s,
-
plus a ’57 four door in light blue, engine in place as
well. (rear bumper and ends were long removed, but entire front grille,
bumper assembly is intact.)
Other cars seen on the site:
-
Six Corvair Greenbrier vans, several with all three
seats present, and one Rampside,
-
About 15 regular, early style Corvairs.
-
An Austin-Healey Sprite (not Bugeye),
-
a Fiat Spyder with a removable hardtop,
-
scattered early and mid 50’s Chevy’s,
-
a ’54 Pontiac Starchief sedan (extended trunk model)
and
-
scores of later Vegas, Mavericks, etc.
Other oddities present were three of the
1950 era Jeepsters,
-
two 1955 Aero Willys “Bermudas”,
-
a ’56 Buick wagon and
-
a few each of ’53 Buick Specials (straight eights) and
-
’53 Buick Supers & Roadmasters (with the first
year Buick V-8)

Hilton Head Concours d' Elegance
- Friday /
Saturday / Sunday, November 4, 5, 6, 2011
Pictures;
Hilton Head was a great weekend and congratulations are
in order for two Peach State CLC members, Stan Tucker and Robert Kipping,
who took the Palmetto Award and Best in Class respectively in their classes
- both well deserved! Each of you are probably quite familiar with my
prejudice towards the '54-56 Cadillacs of which Stan's is fine example and,
obviously, did
very well in the Preservation Class. This was my first opportunity to see
Robert's '56 Packard The Four Hundred (something I've looked forward to
ever since riding in his Caribbean convertible last fall) and it's an impeccable car.
Thanks to him, I have a growing appreciation for the '55-56 Packards, the
last of the true Packards before Studebaker moved production to South Bend
and ultimately killed off the fine marque. Robert's sports a true
1950scolour combination and has the nifty Touch Button Ultramatic.
I am guessing most, if not all of you, have been to Hilton Head or a
similar concourse event before so I won't belabor how impressive the event
and the cars were, but they were pretty awesome. The weather was similarly incredible.
This was my first concourse event and I enjoyed it immensely. I hope we can
get together a group next year for the club jamboree on
Saturday. Please find attached a few photos of our award winners as well as two
other award winning Cadillacs and the Ruffalo's '66 convertible and a
random Cadillac, a 1938 I believe, sitting to the side of the show field.

Fall
Driving Tour - Saturday &
Sunday, October 15 & 16, 2011
Recently Mary Jean and I
spent a weekend on a scouting tour of the proposed PSCLC Fall Driving Tour.
With Georgia travel guides, maps, civil war history references, National
Park Service references and our own travel experience we had prepared a
comfortably paced tour through historic rural Georgia. Now it was time to
scout the route, locate points of interest, and arrange eating places and a
hotel.
Our 230 mile, two-day route will take us from
Jonesboro to Andersonville, Americus, Plains and
Senoia............................

Event
Report!
“Sunday
in the Park” was another great Peach State CLC event. We started
out at Sugar Magnolia, Josie Starnes’ bed and breakfast near the park.
Ten folks snarfed down Josie’s handmade BLT sandwiches, fresh fruit and
peach cobbler – a hearty way to start a crisp, sunny fall day. Thanks,
Josie and Debi!
The club
brought eight cars, and 17 members and guests............

September
The Mystique of the
Automobile
- Saturday,
September 24, 2011 from Noon - 5:00
Don't worry, UGA is playing
Ole Miss that weekend at Ole Miss. Go

We will start off the trip by meeting at the Best Western

lunch at Harry's Pig Shop at 11:30. Arrive at the event, 12:30 and start

‘The Mystique of the Automobile’ is not your typical fall car show. It
is a festival partnering classic cars with art and fashion. The event runs
from Noon until 5:00 PM in downtown Athens at the Lyndon House Arts Center.
Other activities surrounding the car show include a visit to the Botanical
Gardens, the North Georgia Folk Festival (cost is $10 per person), and the
Heritage Tour ($15 per person or $12 per person group rate for 10+ people).
The latter is 90-minute bus tour of the major historic sites in Athens and
UGA. Then, 5 PM, head for home......

Incidentally, there will be at least two of Peach State’s cars featured
on the show field that day. Come out and show your support!

New Video of the Event!!
Here is a great video from The
Mystique of the Automobile. For those who were there, you'll see many
recognizable sights. For those who missed the event, you'll get a glimpse of
what you missed out on. The video also
features the highlight of the day, the fashion show. And, as a special treat
for Peach State CLC members, our own Bill Greene
has a cameo appearance at about 6:50 in the video showcasing his LaSalle.
Enjoy! Garrison Kevin

August
Alive
After Five, Roswell - Unscheduled Email Event - Thursday,
August 18, 2011 @ 5 PM
Have
you heard about Roswell's "Alive After Five" event? The city
has experienced a renaissance of its shopping and street life on old
Canton Street, just across from City Hall. Every month (at least every
warm month) the area's merchants promote their gift and antique shops,
bars and eateries with what they call their "Alive After Five"
celebration. On August 18th President Stan Tucker arranged to have
parking reserved for the Peach State Cadillac and LaSalle Club. When I
pulled up about 3:30 in the '58 Turk, Larry Reece's '51 was pulling into
the lot, with Stan and Paul West behind in Stan's '56, the Godfather.
Soon Lee and Mary Jean Dunn and their longtime friend Pat from
Alpharetta drew up in Geraldine, the green '57 sedan. What beastly piece
of iron was next? None other than Martina Butler in Frank C's '74
Eldorado, followed by Frank C. Butler in his mama's Big Blue '64
Eldorado convertible. Art Gardner got there later in the '56 Sixty
Special he calls Pecos Bill. Frank Butler and Barb Bailey joined us once
they found normal parking around the block. That rounded out the Peach
State crowd! It was exhilarating to entertain lots of non-car buffs
walking the street with families in tow. Quite an exception to the
normal car cruise-in. We answered their questions about the size of the
cars and the lavishing of chrome and polished stainless. I'm guessing
that a few youngsters got their first exposure to classic Cadillacs that
day! Several of us walked a half block to Nine Street, a tavern and
restaurant right on Canton Street. Well, it was really loud! That tends
to happen at a street party. It got louder as the time (and the guests'
drinking) wore on, but the food was great. We all had a fine time. We
were out of there before the partying got too outrageous, about dusk.
Several of us said that we
ought to make a regular appearance at "Alive After Five." See
pics below.............
It is the third Thursday of every month...It would be great to see you
there!

Cadillac
& LaSalle Club 2011 Grand National
Dublin,
OH (Columbus) - August 9 - 13
Hosted By The Ohio
Region Cadillac & LaSalle Club
The Grand National's web
site is: http://www.2011CLCGN.org/
As you know, one of the
biggest and best reasons for belonging to the Cadillac & LaSalle Club
is the "off-the-charts" experience of attending a Grand National
meet. If you have never attended a Grand National, 2011's event is
something you should not miss. Peach State has several friends in the CLC's
Central Ohio region, and they are hosting. Knowing them, we have
absolute confidence that this will be one of the best GNs ever!
Now that it's in the History Books, read all about it below!

Canton Cruise-In and The Swan
Drive-In Theatre -
Saturday, May 21, 2011 @ 2 PM
We will gather at the RiverStone Shopping Center in Canton for lunch and
park our cars together with several hundred other cruisers. When you get
there find the Cadillac Line and park your car. It is just North of the Red
Lobster Restaurant. Then come inside and have some lunch. Remember, park
your car in line First, this place fills up FAST!
Directions: I-75 north to I-575 North to the RiverStone Parkway, exit #20,
turn left onto RiverStone Pkwy at the 3rd or 4th light turn right in to
shopping center. Look for the Red Lobster we will be there.
At 6:30 PM we will head up to Blue Ridge for an evening at The Swan
Drive-in Theater. They try to show family-rated, first-run movies,
but we will not know what’s showing until closer to that weekend (Johnny
Depp and pirates?). Their website is www.swan-drive-in.com.
To increase the odds we can park together as a group we must be there no
later than 7:30 PM. Anyone who's late might have to park away from the rest
of us, but they'll still be able to join us where we park for the show.
Movies start at dark (about 9:00 PM). Dinner on the grounds, hot dogs and
burgers from the drive-in’s kitchen. Drive-in rules:
▪ Coolers or grills are "an
absolute no-no." Patronize their grill!
▪ Lawn chairs are permitted only in
front of your car, not in the parking space beside the cars. Sit on the
hood at your risk…
▪ Admission is only $6 per adult. Bring
cash!
▪ Bring a portable radio or boombox (or
use your car’s FM radio) because they broadcast the audio in FM.
A parking lot attendant will make the rounds to answer questions.
This will be a late night, especially if you stay till nearly midnight for
the second movie. That’s a long drive home after the movie, so some may
want to make a reservation at one of the local hotels or B&B's. There
are also cabin rentals. Search on 'blue ridge Georgia mountain cabins"
for leads. Lee and Mary Jean have room for two couples for that night
in Waleska, about an hour from the theater. It must be “first come, first
served,” so if you’re interested in that, please contact the Dunns
directly.

April 30
Hosted
by the Dixie Chapter Buick Club of America
At The Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel and Conference Center, 500 Powder
Springs Street, Marietta, GA (same location as last year, see directions
below)
All cars will be professionally judged with judging starting around 9
AM. Once your window card is displayed they will be able to judge your car,
then a small round colored dot will be placed either on the windshield or
left headlamp. This will allow the judging to be completed earlier in the
day and should make for a less hectic time for all.
There will be numerous door prizes from O'Reilly, NAPA, gift certificates
from Rock Auto, Eaton Detroit Springs and Accuair Heating/Cooling just to
name a few. And of course don't forget the Goodie Bags stuffed with things

and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Annual Driving
Tour - Final Destination is Savannah, GA via Country Roads
- April 1-3, 2011
We
will leave the Atlanta area on Friday heading east toward Savannah. We'll
see architecture in historic Thomson and have lunch there. Using the
two-lanes we will head on down to Savannah, and have some BBQ at a famous
pig-roastin' restaurant. We're making room arrangements right now, and
we're trying to find a great place within walking distance of street fairs
and shopping. On Saturday we will tour Savannah -- locations are to be
announced, but will probably include Tybee Island, the Mighty Eighth Air
Force museum, River Street and nightlife, and maybe a cocktail party...
After a leisurely breakfast on Sunday morning, we will head back toward
Atlanta using back roads going through Milledgeville -- where (if there's
time) we will see the old Governor's Mansion and Georgia College and State
University (GCSU).
Terry
Bird, who hosted and led our highly successful spring tour to Huntsville
and surrounding parts last year, has graciously agreed to serve as
planner/coordinator/host and tour guide once again for 2011. I have
to tell you, there is no better club activity all year long than the Peach
State Spring Driving Tour. Last year we had 11 cars and about 20
people and we ALL had a total blast. This year we would like to have even
more folks along for the ride. I'm telling you, if you haven't done
something with the club in a while, or if you've always limited yourself
to the close-by cruise-ins and one-day events, you simply HAVE TO TRY THIS
OUT. There is no substitute for spending a few days rolling through the
countryside on roads our cars were built for, seeing some of our beautiful
Georgia in the spring, and hanging out with some truly, truly wonderful
people. It'll warm your heart.
