This 1941 Series 63 Cadillac (7341973) was shipped Feb 10, 1941 to Capitol Cadillac Co. in Washington DC, with 61 color (two-toned Fairoaks and ElCentro greens) for a dealer cost of $1155.60. "T" was the addition of Hydramatic (first year in Cadillac) for $95, dealer cost. The radio and antenna was an additional $43, day-night mirror $2.25 and a "back up light loose" for $2.50. The back up light on this car IS different from the published Cadillac unit for 1941. What happened? Was there a shortage? We may never know. There was another unknown option for $6.35 (Trico windshield washer? - the jar was evidently allowed to freeze and is not there, along with the strap around the bottom), fog lights at $9.75 (since removed), shipping at $50.46, "EOH" (heater, special steering wheel and economy axle) at $50 and "adv" at $18, bringing the total dealer cost to $1442.06. The consumer MSRP was $1695 without options - a margin (32%) that today's dealers would covet!

The Turk (short for “Turk-oise”)
Turquoise and White 1958 Extended Deck sedan (6239E)

In 2005, I became the third owner of this turquoise and white 1958 Extended Deck sedan (6239E).

The Turk is a straight, black-tagged California car, all original except for carpet, headliner, and radial tires – with turquoise (28) and alpine white (12) paint; turquoise and black Morrocan interior (36).

She’s got four doors – which makes her a driver. She is not a convertible, not even a Coupe de Ville. And not all that rare: number 14,571 of 20,952 made that year.

Not a highly desirable Caddie to collectors, but exactly like the one I learned to drive in back in ’65. The one I was driving when I met my wife, Barb, in high school. So, I made two decisions that day in ’05: I would replace her rubber and refresh her interior, but I would not try to restore her completely – at least not now.

I had expected to find a treasure trove of nearly fifty-year-old geegaws under the old carpet. Instead I found only a ’64 penny, some screws, and a bunch of hairpins in the rear passenger-side corner, no doubt left from the original owner, a Ms Sylvia Goldstein from LA. Ms. Goldstein had it delivered to LA in ’58 and then sold it to Wolf in 1962. An original Cadillac medallion I found under the horsehair padding had been there from the beginning I suspect.

I had that medallion in my pocket for good luck as Barb and I drove the Turk the 300 or so miles to Savannah in August 2007 for the Cadillac-LaSalle Grand National meet. It was hot, probably 95 degrees, and humid. A true southern Californian, the Turk had never been burdened with air conditioning. On the Saturday morning of the judging, I awoke at 6:0 0 AM to find the Turk plastered with little black bugs. It took nearly two hours to scour her face before the judging began.

She did well at the show and took home a 1st in Class.

Background of history: Single (first) owner was a 55-year-old lady who ordered it in Chicago area in early ‘66. She paid nearly $6,000 base and added over a $1,000 in options (like Climate Control, power seats, AM-FM radio, etc.) It has the original spare in the trunk. She subsequently moved to Blairsville GA to live with her son. She passed away last year at the age of 95.

I bought it from her son, who was clearing way for his model “O” scale train collection. He had already sold his Rolls and his ’56 Cadillac. His is the largest collection of “O” scale trains in the world according to some model train magazines. (It’s worth a drive up Blood Mountain near Hiwassee and Brasstown Bald Resort just for that; he has a huge payout and entertains as many as 50 visitors at a time to his museum…). Asked why he was selling now, he told me, “Doug, your thing is old Cadillacs. Mine is model trains…”

The car was 41 years old in May, and it has 39,500 miles. Owner said it had always been garaged and covered, and it shows. None of the three cigar lighters shows any evidence of ever being lit up… I have researched the cowl tag and have acquired the GM build sheet. All correct. Appears nearly new. Has had a re-spray on passenger rear door and rear right quarter panel, but no evidence of filler. A quality paint touchup. All other paint is thick and like new. Clean under the hood, and the interior is truly immaculate…

The 1964 has 68k original miles on it. I bought it from 96 year old original owner from Southern California. Stock bodied, resto/modified interior, now being fitted with a 500 horsepower 500 cubic inch late model engine. A sleeper, rocket.

The 1976 Eldorado triple yellow convertible has 38k original miles. Ordered by a Cadillac district manager, never out of Arizona until I brought it to Georgia.
